Boney, sloped part of the surface of the posterior cranial fossa (skull base) sloping upward from the foramen magnum to the dorsum sellae.  It also articulations (where parts come together) with the sphenoid bone,  anterior (front) basal (base) part of the occipital bone, and petrous (hard) part of the temporal bone.
